The Historic Stonewall Inn Joins the New Jersey Pride Chamber of Commerce
On June 28th, 1969, the patrons of the historic Stonewall Inn fought back. The Stonewall Riots became a significant moment of the modern Gay Rights movement.
Wayne, NJ (June 1, 2023) – The New Jersey Pride Chamber of Commerce (NJPCC) is proud to announce that it has secured membership from The Stonewall Inn, located at 53 Christopher Street, New York, New York. This is Stonewall’s 1st year as a corporate member of the NJPCC. As the site of a significant moment of the Gay Rights movement, Kurt Kelly, an owner of the Stonewall Inn, has made it his mission to maintain the historic tavern as well as educate society on the true history of June 28th, 1969.
Additionally, the owners of the Stonewall Inn, with Stacey Lentz and Bob Kelly have created the Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative (SIGBI) as the official and only charitable giving organization of the Historic Stonewall Inn, spreading the Stonewall Inn Legacy to the places, faces and spaces that need it the most. SIGBI partnered with the LGBTQ+ people all over the country to identify the following criteria. The SIGBI community includes those who are hyper-marginalized and often live in environments that are not affirming. These criteria reflect the needs of people facing daily challenges because of who they are.

Every time you put a rock on the wall, we become a stronger community” said Kurt Kelly, an owner of The Stonewall Inn. “The Stonewall Inn has supported dozens of LGBTQIA+ communities and initiatives across the tristate and country, including LGBT sports, but it is Kurt’s dedication to educating and protecting the history of the Stonewall Inn that keeps him going year after year. The chamber is immensely proud to have the Stonewall Inn logo displayed at its events and website” said Augusto Penaranda, Executive Director of NJPCC.
